But more than 20 years also meant missed birthdays, holidays and celebrations. Long drives. Camp rooms. Night shifts. Exhaustion. Moments of loneliness. Moments where the whole thing felt hopeless. Moments where you could be surrounded by people and still feel completely on your own.
And after giving everything to the job, we got tired of feeling like we were still just another number.
We got tired of being treated like a number.
So we decided the numbers we worked so hard to earn needed to start working for us.
That was the gap.
We spend a hell of a lot of time learning how to make money. Far less time learning how to make that money build something: security, breathing room, choices, freedom, a way forward — a life that gives something back for everything it took to build.
Because the paycheque was never the whole story. Nobody talks enough about what it costs to earn it.
We wanted a place where those things could be part of the equation too.
Then we found efter.
Not a random mark. Not a font picked from a branding board. A piece of history carried forward.
Our handwritten mark was inspired by the signature of a man who left this earth long ago, but whose legacy never left us.
It represents the people who came before us. The work ethic we inherited. The lessons they taught us. The mistakes we watched, made and learned from ourselves. The traditions worth carrying forward — and the hard truths we refuse to ignore.
EFTERA is our way of honouring that legacy without being trapped by it.
